The 2 "New" Parties
Republican GOP = Left of JFK
Democrat = Left of Stalin
Any way you look at it, the above it absolutely true. Take the policies and actions of JFK and compare them to the world of politics today. Kennedy would have never spent as much as Bush. That aside, they both started wars. They had very similar immagration thoughts but Kennedy at least sought lawful means. Taxes is another area they were damn close on. Foreign Policy today is almost exactly like it was under JFK. In fact about the bigest difference I can tell is that JFK never had a rabid anti-JFK, abusive, negative, gotcha mentality cry babies in the other Party and in the Media which has become a part of a Party.
Today you have Barack Hussien Obama. Like Stalin he has openly gone against anybody who disagrees with him. He has enlisted the media in his efforts. The Media has become an arm of he Democrat Party. They are openly hostile to Bush, McCain, and republican / conservatives. They have foresaken "Journalism" for Marxism. This alone is amazing. The similarities between Barack Hussein Obama and Stalin in the area of socio-political thought resound in Marxism, the philosophy of Carl Marx. Socialism and Communism are the Sister political Movements rooted in the writings of Carl Marx. The two philosophies are nearly identical. Just minor tweeks here and there seperate them. Obama associates with terrorists and radicals even religious leaders that have Marxist zeal and cloak it in God. As a Muslim the aire of Marxism and theocratic socialism have surrounded him just as Stalin was surrounded by Marxists in all their brutality. Obama has Akorn fixing the election just like Stalin, Castro, Chaves etc have fixed elections.
Now you have John McCain. A guy to the right of Bush and Daddy Bush but not Ronald Wilson Reagan Conservative. He is really a wishy-washy guy when it comes to social issues. He is live and let live more than conservatives would like. Especially his not being so forceful and animated when dealing with Barack Hussien Obama's constant lying and parsing words like Clinton. In truth Obama the heretic has perfected Clinton's "what does IS mean" magical parsing and twisting words around so you can lie without ever having anything you say to be a "got you" statement. With Obama its off script stuff is hard like accidently admitting your are a communist/socialist in front of cameras with Joe the plumber.
McCain has grabbed on that truth but isn't screaming it like he should. Bill Ayres is another communist who also happens to be a terrorist! He should be in jail except a technicality! Someone messed up is the reason Ayres isn't in jail. He admits murdering people and destroying public and private buildings and homes. Barack Hussein Obama started his political career in Ayres house! They sat on multiple boards together! Even though their children are 20 years apart get together and play? What the heck? Exactly an example of the Media being an arm of the Democrats and a machine in the campaign of Barack Hussien Obama, would be the first Communist President.
It is crazy how the people just don't see the truth when it is out there. The Missouri folks getting legal police state threats out there. Not an overstatement the Missouri Govenor stated that in those exact words its in public resords! Akorn being paid off to rig elections. Its crazy as hell but thie truth is ignored by those it would hurt! What a shock! What is the terrible shock is that so many people have been brainwashed by Barack hussien Obama. They have suspended reality in order to support Obama. There is no logic, truth, reason, or reality in their emotionally hypignotized support. They openly reject anything that goes against Obama. It is an intentionally induced mental disorder generated by constant media manipulation. It is Hitler style public relations! Obama zombies chanting along the path to their destruction.

I'm not sure it is as two sided as you indicate.
The current decline of the Republican party is not all that mysterious.
